Question 1 of 7

    What this test measures

These seven questions are the GAD-7, the most widely used brief screen for generalized anxiety in primary care and psychiatry. It asks how often specific symptoms have bothered you over the past two weeks.

Each answer scores 0 to 3, so totals run from 0 to 21. A score of 10 or higher is the conventional threshold for further assessment.

    Score bands and their meaning
    ScoreWhat it indicates
    0 - 4Minimal anxiety
    5 - 9Mild anxiety
    10 - 14Moderate anxiety - further evaluation recommended
    15 - 21Severe anxiety - evaluation warranted

What anxiety treatment actually looks like

Cognitive behavioral therapy has the strongest evidence base for anxiety disorders, and for many people it is sufficient on its own. Where symptoms are moderate or severe, medication is often added - SSRIs and SNRIs are first-line, and the choice depends on your history, other conditions, and what you have already tried.

Anxiety is also one of the most commonly mislabeled presentations in psychiatry. Thyroid disease, sleep apnea, stimulant use, alcohol withdrawal, and undiagnosed ADHD can all present as anxiety. A real evaluation rules those in or out rather than starting with a prescription.

    Common questions

    Is this test a diagnosis?
No. It is a screen. A diagnosis requires a clinical interview against DSM-5-TR criteria, including how long symptoms have lasted and what else could explain them.
Are my answers saved or sent anywhere?
No. Scoring runs inside your browser. Nothing is transmitted, stored, or connected to your identity. Closing the tab erases it.
What if my anxiety is about one specific thing?
The GAD-7 measures generalized anxiety. Panic disorder, social anxiety, OCD, and PTSD have different presentations and can score low here. Bring the specific pattern to an evaluation.
Do you see patients outside Nevada?
We see patients in person in Henderson and Las Vegas, and by telehealth in Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Washington DC and New Mexico, with additional states opening soon.
